Know your limits and don't get out of your depth in the water. If you're not a confident swimmer, contact your local aquatic facility for swimming and water safety lessons. There are many adults learning to swim for the first time. You aren't alone. The first step is signing up.

"The fact that these boys can get an opportunity to gain knowledge around water safety is life changing for the boys and their families. Without this funding most of our families are unable to access any swimming and water safety programs. With the number of children drowning in Australia this scares me especially for our boys in the St Pauls community."
- Nicholas Gillard, Teacher, St Pauls College
Royal Life Saving with the support of the Australian Government proudly provided swimming and water safety lessons to 190 students as part of the Swim and Survive Fund

This Easter long weekend seven people tragically drowned across Australia. They were grandparents, parents, children, friends, and much loved members of communities.
We mourn the loss of lifesavers Andy and Ross Powell who lost their lives during a rescue operation. We wish to extend our deepest sympathy to their families, the community of Port Campbell, and to Life Saving Victoria.
We also want to acknowledge the brave and selfless efforts of lifeguards, lifesavers, rescuers, and emergency services who worked tirelessly over the weekend to keep people safe.
Always take care when enjoying time in and around water and remember these safety tips:
• Actively supervise children in and around water
• Wear a lifejacket
• Avoid alcohol around water
• Swim in patrolled areas
• Check for currents and depths of water before entering
• Be aware of medical conditions and their impact

Life savers around Australia stood for a minute silence to honour Ross and Andrew Powell, two life savers in Victoria who lost their life whilst undertaking a rescue.
Our hearts go out to the whole community who feel their loss.

@lifesavingvic has installed a tank filled with 1-tonne of water at Queensbridge Square on the banks of the Yarra River in Melbourne’s CBD, to highlight the dangers of inland waterways.
Come and say hello to our friendly staff, and try to move the tank, from 11am – 2pm each day until Friday 12 April.
Pictured here are U19 Victorian Pool Lifesaving athletes Katalina and Tom, along with education staff Twiggy and Courtney, doing their best to try to move the tank!
