Is food controlling your life?
I love food. I appreciate good food. I’m fascinated by the art and science behind it all. And the general delicousness. But to a lot of people, food is the enemy.
Through all of our dieting and calorie counting, we’ve begun to see food as a barrier. If we want to lose weight, we need to somehow figure out how to avoid pizza. Or eat fake cauliflower pizza and pretend it’s what we really want... Food isn’t a barrier. It’s fuel. It’s happiness. It’s nourishment. It is not your enemy.
Eating a healthy diet will help you to feel good. Weight aside, nourishing your body should be a priority. But if eating pizza scares you to death, you have a broken relationship with food.
Eating an authentic Italian pizza made me incredibly happy. It’s something I’m so glad I got to experience. Do I know how many calories it was? Not a clue. Probably a lot. Does it matter? Not at all. Looking back on my trip to Italy, calories will never even be a thought that cross my mind.
I fully support counting calories and counting macros. They’re great tools to have in your arsenal, and I believe they are very helpful in the long run. But they shouldn’t control your life.
You should be able to go out with your spouse and enjoy a nice dinner without the worry of calories. You should be able to vacation to another country and experience their local cuisine without the worry of calories. You should be able to enjoy the memorable moments in your life without the worry of calories.
It might not be easy to flip that switch to stop worrying about your intake. But that’s why I’m here to help you- because it’s worth it.
You can count your calories and track what you eat. But you can also take days off from it, too. This “health” thing doesn’t have a deadline- it is your entire life. Don’t let your diet blind you from what is most important in your life. Your diet will still be there tomorrow.
We strive so hard for the truth. Rushing the process of healing and enlightenment. Comparing ourselves to others as we convince ourselves we are broken and in need of something - either internally or externally. So we search. We try desparately to find ourselves - to drop the ego as quickly as we can. To love and be loved, and to forgive and forget. We seek escape. So we wander. We seek new people. So we look further. The future - uncertain - we try to plan. Wondering at what point it'll all come together. Wondering when WE, as individuals, will come together. .
Well, if you ask me - the truth is already there. It was never lost, and neither were we. Each path is unique and so are our stories. Each one beautiful in their own right, and not necessarily in need of correction. We are not to blame for what has happened to us. Nor are we entitled. We just are. In the moment. Living life on a strange planet with even stranger beings - simply experiencing. We are unique, and no amount of searching will ever bring us the answers we seek. Why? Because we create them. .
We create the questions and we create the answers. We create our own reality and we choose what kind of impact we have on those around us. The only thing we can do - that is ever truly a given - is to be true to ourselves in the moment. To feel, think, speak, and act from a place of no filters. From a place that emanates from the deepest recesses of our being. Truth is love. A real love of life - and that's all there is to it. 💙
